ECU Software
Submitted by dip on 25. October 2009 - 22:05
Spent almost 4 hours tonight, troubleshooting software issues on a customer's car. The stubborn car would only run properly on one particular build of Trionic7. So incredibly frustrating! The owner exhibited wonders of patience and stayed after dark, until everything got resolved.

Very interesting
I'm impressed. And I'm particularly impressed that you worked hard to resolve the problem.

Dip, Sounds interesting. I
Dip,
Sounds interesting.
I did a Google search of Trionic 7 and there is a whole world of information on it out there.
(Still way over my head though............)
I think the only thing I picked up was that my (07) 9-3 has Trionic 8.
(All the programming stuff reminded me of the days when Direct Tv was being bootlegged via scripts, bin files, etc.)
Any chance you'll update your blog with some more details (in layman's terms) as to what his problem was and how you fixed it (your hardware, software, etc) ?
Best regards,
Danny
Arc to Aero
The person came in to enable realtime data on the SID and upgrade his '04 9-5 Arc with an Aero ECU. This is a very popular upgrade, as the engine in 2004-2005 Arcs is the same as in the Aeros, and people can safely and easily get extra 30hp and torque with a simple software change.
Normally, it's a very straightforward process - the ECU gets flashed with latest Aero software, and the owner goes home happy. This particular car, however, refused to cooperate, throwing traction control and ABS warnings with several different Trionic revisions that were known to work. Some quick research on ecuproject revealed that in some cases you have to re-program the stability control to match the ECU.
I didn't feel that it would be fair to send the owner to the dealer to have ESC/TCS reprogrammed. So we ended up using a copy of the more recent 2005 Arc base software (which worked fine with his TCS) with Aero maps applied on top to get the extra power he wanted.
Very interesting stuff
Very interesting stuff Dip.
There's another world out there in re-programming the software, some just straight ECU mods and ECU mods with air filters and bigger mufflers.
I have to confess that I'm happy enough with mine as it is.
I never bought the 9-3 for perfomance, only looks.
Thanks for the insight - very much appreciated.
