The following are notes for drivers considering The Saab Club of Canada driving schools. Please read this entire document before registering.

The Saab Club of Canada has a cancellation policy for its driving schools. You best read the policy and be certain you understand it. If you do not agree with it, then you should not register for our schools. Our simple policy is similar to most clubs or organizations running driving schools.

This policy is noted on our driving school registration forms. When you register for the school, you acknowledge the cancellation policy.

The Simple Policy

The cancellation policy is simple. It states two things:

  • That if you cannot attend, the tuition is non-refundable unless you first contact the registrar and someone on the waiting list takes your place; and
  • that if you do attend and your car is unsuitable or cannot complete the day, the tuition is non-refundable.

Purpose

The cancellation policy exists for a few simple reasons.

We want you to be serious about signing up for our schools. We do not want to sign-up then remove people (then maybe sign them back up again). Obviously, this produces a considerable amount of additional administrative work for our volunteers.

We want you to be serious about preparing your car. If your car is not very reliable, this puts the onus on you to make sure it is fit for the purpose and the demands of spirited driving and our safety exercises.

The Saab Club of Canada (a non-profit organization) must make deposits to reserve the tracks, classrooms, equipment, etc. These payments are substantial and are are often made well in advance. The day of a school, the track fee balance is due. Catered food must be paid for upon delivery. We rely on school registrations to meet these commitments.

Typically, track reservations, if cancelled, are non-refundable.

Registrations received reflect the interest in a school. A high number of registrations means that a school is financially viable; a low number may mean the school will lose money. If a many registrants cancelled without recourse, there could be grave financial issues for the organizer.

And... we really, really want you to come to our driving school!

Consideration
We know that serious situations arise where one must cancel or pull out. We review all situations carefully.

But, in general, we will always encourage you to do whatever is necessary to attend.

You May Substitute

The best solution, if you must cancel, is to arrange for someone you know to go in your place. Perhaps a friend, family member, or co-worker would like to participate in the school. You may have them attend instead. We will still charge you. You, in turn, collect the money from them. This is the simplest solution for us.

You cannot substitute someone without our knowledge and consent. You must contact us before the school. The replacement must complete a school registration form (leaving the payment information blank).

If your contact cancels or does not show, you are wholly responsible.

We May Substitute

If the school in question is full or sold-out, and there are still more people interested in attending, then we keep a waiting list.

We can attempt to substitute someone from the waiting list in your spot.

However, we must be able to successfully contact a candidate and receive their application and payment in full, before deleting you from the list.

When the waiting list applicant is fully registered, we'll notify you (so you don't show up), and you will be removed from the school roster. Finally, we will issue you a refund (minus a nominal administrative fee).

If our contact cancels or does not show, you are not responsible; they are.
