Where's My Saab?

Where's My Saab?

By Fred Hopper, Vice-President

This is a monthly Gryphon feature where readers are invited to identify the geographical location of Saab in the photograph. Be the first to correctly name where the pic was taken and you will be mentioned in the next issue of the newsletter as well as here on the web site. A high-resolution colour version of the photo will be posted here on the 3th Wednesday of every month, when the Gryphon is published. Send your guess to Fred Hopper at photos [at] saabclub [dot] ca.

We are looking for readers to contribute photos; if it's selected you will get a mention of thanks in the following issue. Photos must include any model of Saab, and they must be taken by yourself. Ideally they should be of your car, however given that we often have to reluctantly leave our Saabs behind on travel, photos of other people's Saabs are also acceptable. Send photos to the same address as above. Note: When submitting your photos, be aware that they will appear in both the print version of the newsletter as well as on the club web site - which makes them visible to (and downloadable by) anyone on the Internet.

You can receive an eMail alert whenever this page is updated with a new "Where's My Saab" photo. Click here to have www.changedetection.com monitor this page and send you a note when it changes.

April 2011: Orillia, Ontario

April 2011: Orillia, Ontario

Congratulations to Andrew Fyfe who correctly identified the location of Neil Palmer's 9-5 which was in front of the Ossawippi Restaurant's Dining Cars in Orelia's waterfront. He also pointed out that it's located at the foot of Mississaga Street, which is not a misspelling. I want to thank Neil for being a longtime contributor to this (now occasional) feature.

March 2011: George Street, Edinburgh

March 2011: George Street, Edinburgh

Congratulations to Neil Palmer who not only correctly named the city (which is all I was looking for) but also the correct street of last month's photo, which was George Street in Edinburgh. Neil also identified the stately building in the background with Roman columns as the Assembly Halls but this part was incorrect, the building was actually The Dome, one block away. I want to thank Rajiv Dighe for providing the great photo.

November 2010: 13th Street Winery, St. Catharines, Ontario

Congrats to John Burnet for correctly identifying the location where this photo was shot. Thanks to Dan Jumis for sending us this pic from our SAAB Fun Rallye in October. Dan reported "Lots of fun and great people. Can't wait til the next Fun Rallye."

January 2010: Mattawa, Ontario

January 2010: Mattawa, Ontario

This was a tough one and no-one had identified the location of our January photo which was provided by Marek Dziedzic who took it of his Saab convertible in front of the Visitors' Centre in Mattawa, Ontario.

June 2009: Paris, France

June 2009: Paris, France

June’s photo was provided by Wendy Chapman who took the photo of the 9-3 (or was it a second gen 900?) convertible in Paris, France. The location was correctly spotted first by Martin Paquet and then also by Marek Dziedzic. I also received two excellent but not quite correct guesses – from Danny McGinty and Art Proulx.

May 2009: Allegheny State Park. New York State

May 2009: Allegheny State Park. New York State

April’s photo was provided by Mike Dobsi who took the photo of his 9-3 Viggen in Allegheny State Park in New York State. Although no-one correctly identified the location, I do want to congratulate Guido Riccioni for recognizing Mike’s car.

April 2009: Saturn Saab Kitchener/Waterloo

April 2009: Saturn Saab Kitchener/Waterloo

April’s photo was provided by Neil Palmer, taken of his old and new Saabs in the back lot of Saab/Saturn of Kitchener/Waterloo looking east over the Conestoga Parkway. We had six readers correctly spot the location, in order: Scott Catton, Larry Wrightson, Guido Riccioni, Brian Mills, James Wagner and Bobby Pavlovic. James mentioned that he sees this view every day, being shop foreman of the dealership. Another reader pointed out how great this dealerships’ service rates were. Congrats to all of you.
