Cherry Red Manifold

Nick's got a nice video out. I saw that on my own Saabs a few times. Looks great at night!

ECU Software

Spent almost 4 hours tonight, troubleshooting software issues on a customer's car. The stubborn car would only run properly on one particular build of Trionic7. So incredibly frustrating! The owner exhibited wonders of patience and stayed after dark, until everything got resolved.

Ventilated Seats

Got a complete Aero interior from AktiveMotors - just in time for my birthday. Boy, those vented seats are awesome! Big install job coming right up.

Stopping Power

Replaced the rear brakes with large 300mm vented rotors and calipers from an Aero. Installed Goodridge stainless braided brake lines. Pictures to come!

Trionic Programming

Posted a couple of brief guides on both CAN and BDM connections to a T7 ECU. Had a overcome a few problems flashing my ECU, but everything went well in the end, thanks to the folks on ecuproject. Now running a test tune somewhere above the Aero power levels, will continue working on it. The car feels like a proper Saab now. Also enabled the SID information mod - so cool to see real time engine data on the SID.

CAN Hacking

The CANUSB adapter arrived today. Made a wiring harness for it with some Radio Shack parts and hooked it up to the controller bus in the car. Successfully downloaded the firmware from my ECU. Started playing with tuning tools, ecuproject rocks. Gotta find a spare ECU now, so I don't ruin mine by accident.

LSD

Finally came around to post an update about the LSD install we did at Aktive Motors a month ago. The best mod I've had so far. Read the forum thread for more details.

Now the car could use some extra power...

Exhaust adventures

Took me a month to finalize the exhaust upgrade. Jak Stoll made me a complete 3" system, but it was making an annoying low frequency drone, resonating through the whole car. Turned out it was the resonator that was making all the noise. I ended up getting a round Magnaflow muffler with a straight through perforated core, and replaced the resonator with it. A pretty big one, 6" wide and 30" long, the longest I could fit in there.

Much happier now. The installation gallery is online, as usual.

Food, Glorious Food

The 9-5 is now officially a grocery getter. I just installed a Saab accessory grocery bag holder in the trunk!

Cold and Shiny

My air conditioner is now blowing cold air again, thanks to Aktive Motors! The patience and the amount of effort Christian shows in actually explaining the problem to the customer is certainly admiring.

First upgrade of the year - a driver side cargo net in the trunk (yes, I have two now). Maybe that will keep grocery bags in check on those spirited runs from the store.

click for moreAnd finally, something really nice and totally unnecessary - a proper upgrade ;]. A shiny polished stainless piece of art by Taliaferro. Prohibitively expensive and obsoleted by the Saab's own 2006+ cobra kit, this inlet pipe is still a nice thing to have both for the performance benefits it offers and the attention it grabs when you open the hood. It is a recommended accessory for stage 3 and higher for those who prefer to stick with the trusty old TD04 turbo, but wish to make it easier to breath at the top end. I have none of those yet, but I dug up the pipe in the garage and thought I'd throw it in. Check out the install guide.
